Winter Coat Sale

This installment of Tuesday’s Timely Tip is a reminder that winter clothing will start to go on sale soon! As stores make room for spring clothing, they discount the winter stuff so they can clear out their inventory. Maybe you can buy your child’s winter coat for next year at a fraction of the regular price.

2 Big Ifs
If your child ‘needs’ to pick out exactly what they wear or they care a lot about what other kids are wearing and having clothing that is ‘in’ each season…don’t buy ahead.
If your budget is so tight right now that you’d need to put the coat on a credit card which you can’t pay off at the end of the month, don’t buy ahead. The interest will compound so much, you’ll end up paying more for the jacket in the end.
But, if you can fit it into your budget and your kiddo is likely to wear whatever winter jacket you pick out, you can save yourself some money by buying ahead.

I’d steer clear of buying boots the year before because it’s too hard to predict what sizes your kids will need. That said, hats and mittens (which are much easier to put on than gloves) are probably fine to buy ahead.
One Tip
Buy the winter coat in a size bigger than you think you need. You might even get two seasons out of it.
