Why are we Always Grocery Shopping?

Just filling time while Will is at swim practice.

At this point, back in 2013 swim season is still going…it would continue for a few more months, in fact. So, Mr. Mike and I were often hanging out for a solid hour without much to do. In response to this, I decided to save the grocery shopping for this time, at least once a week. This gave me more time during the school day to get other things done, like sit on the phone with the insurance company for two hours to get some therapy or another approved.

M's journal entry from Nov 22 2013. I helped my Mom with the food shopping. Mikey putting an apple in the cart and smiling for the camera.
Just rockin’ his monkey hat in the produce aisle.

Michael was really helpful on these little trips to the store and he was a good sport in general as we supported his brother’s wish to be on the swim team. We’d get the basics to get us through the next few days. This kept the trip pretty short for Mikey and allowed me to give him a list to cross of as we went…often written quickly in the parking lot, outside the grocery store.

Also, there are so many skills that you can work on while grocery shopping, so it was never a waste of time.  For more ideas on making grocery shopping a learning experience, check out the article below.

Remember, life is enrichment! When we engage our kids in the things we do every day and focus on some skills that are within their reach, we’re helping them learn and grow.
