We Appreciate You!

Still, as a parent of a 19-year-old Mikey, we send our son off to school every day knowing that he cannot tell us what happens during his day. Michael’s language abilities allow him to ask for what he needs and wants, but recounting things that happened earlier is still too challenging for him. Since he cannot tell us what happens in his day (yet), we are profoundly dependent on his school staff to treat him with care and thoughtfulness.
And overwhelmingly, we’ve been truly blessed. I just wanted to take a moment to thank all the folks who have gotten Mikey to where he is today. I can’t possibly name them all (not because I don’t remember everyone…I do), but we try to protect everyone’s privacy in Mikey’s Journal so we never share names of pals, teachers or family members – except for our core four. Every teacher and therapist who has touched Mikey’s life has made it better.

From Birth to Three (our early intervention program here in CT) all the way through high school (which is still going on for Mikey – he’ll be in school until he is 22), he has been blessed with the most fun, engaging, caring, thoughtful staff.

This year, my Christmas wish is that you always remember the beautiful difference you make in the lives of the children you help. I know that our family will never forget. Thank you: behavior therapists, teachers, speech therapists, aides, physical therapists, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, occupational therapists, and all the administrators who advocated for Mikey. We are so glad you have been a part of Team Mikey and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
