Water Country USA

stylized photos of waterslides and the lazy river.
Mikey loved any water slides that we could do together (all very tame because Mom is lame).

You won’t believe what I am about to say…I LOVED Water Country USA! I think I was saved by the fact that it was drizzling but not thundering so many people chose other activities.  It was crowded, but not full-on water park in the summer crowded. That may have made it infinitely more tolerable for me, and probably Mikey too. And, we were going in the water anyway so no one cared that extra water was coming from the sky.

journal entry from July 21 2014. photos of the lazy river, the wave pool and two water slides.
I used stock photos available online because the water park was not very camera-friendly.

Before you read any further…if you’re new to the blog, Mikey can swim. He took Red Cross swim lessons at our local YMCA and he is very safe around the water. Okay, moving on.

Mikey and I did small water slides together if we were allowed to ride tandem. When we had two adults, he could do water slides independently because one of us could help him get on at the top and someone could already be waiting at the bottom.

Disclaimer

Like amusement park rides, don’t chance it if you’re not sure your child can do it safely…it’s just not worth it.  Stick to the things that you can do together so you can make sure they are safe.

Our Day

At Water Country USA there were huge slides and rides that Will was psyched to do.  Dave was there to go with him on the ones that were too scary for me, in other words, pretty much all of them.  There was one that we were able to ride as a family with a huge raft and rapids and then there was my absolute favorite: The Lazy River!

We had a little spot by the Lazy River with chairs and towels.  Will could go around and around while we sat quietly. Mikey loved the lazy river too and we took turns going around with him.

There were food trucks and stands with snacks and treats and we found a place to grab some lunch that we could bring back to our chairs and eat. In short, each member of our family had enough excitement and space and quiet and joy throughout the day.

For my take on most other amusement parks, please read the post linked below. Spoiler alert! It is entitled ‘What Fresh Hell is This?”
