Swimming with Pals
M was a friend from Mikey’s special ed classroom. He was a few years older than Mikey, but our families were friends and he was very kind to Mikey. S was a typical friend of Mikey’s from his grade. Our families became friends because she and Mikey were buddies.
This event was part of a larger journal entry covering the whole Fourth of July weekend. We invited some friends over to swim and have a BBQ to kick off the festivities! My takeaway from this experience is that if you invite a group of good kids and their families, the experience will usually be positive.
Including everyone: good old American summer fun!

She holds a BA in Psychology from Colgate University and a Masters of Psychology in Education from Columbia Teacher’s College.
