It may be tough to see in the pictures, but the photos in this journal entry are in the back of my SUV.  I had a picnic blanket spread out in the back.  If Will was busy at an activity, Mikey and I would use the back of my car as a spot to hang out.

The back of the car gave us a quiet spot to make positive use of the waiting time. Of course, we’d spread the picnic blanket outside if the weather was good and the environment was safe.  But, sometimes we’d be close to a busy road so it would be safer for Michael to be in a more contained environment.

 By sharing these simple ways we kept Mikey safe while making his life full and fun, we hope we can arm you with ways to make your life easier while meeting the needs of all the members of your own complex family.  Of course, all our ideas won’t work for your family, but we hope you’ll find something helpful in the mix.

Mikey wasn’t a huge Star Wars fan, but he loved airplanes. I chose this Lego set for him because it had something he would enjoy plus something his pals at school would recognize and relate to. I wouldn’t have gotten it for him if it was ONLY something his friends would appreciate, but this Lego set was a nice compromise. It made for a great activity and then a fun journal entry to share with typical classmates at school. Win, win.
