Success

The parenting journey is long.  Although we celebrate many small successes along the way, sometimes our children regress.  We’re forced to reteach them skills they already had.  There are also times we feel they’re stuck. Their skills have plateaued, and we need the resolve to devise new ways to help them progress.

I find it helpful to separate my efforts from the results they are producing.  If my goal was to be patient and remain calm, I try to remind myself to feel proud of my parenting…even when my peaceful approach is not mirrored in my child’s behavior.

We need to play the long game.  There will be days that make us want to throw in the towel.  We won’t. We can’t.  So, whatever you need to do for yourself to keep going, do it.  It is the courage to continue that makes the difference in the end.
