Riding Bikes

Will and Michael bike riding.
Outside time and exercise for the win!

Michael loved riding his bike. We never really got past the stage of training wheels, but he always had fun doing it. We lived on a busy street, but there was a parking lot nearby that was always virtually empty. I still had to watch out for them, but they were safe and had plenty of room to zip around for a while and get out some energy.

A little rain can’t keep us inside.

Now, more and more towns have bike trails close by. These are great because they’re so safe for kids.

If your child cannot ride a typical bike, there are adaptive bikes that can be a wonderful way to get the experience of biking.  Some have support for your child’s back, straps to hold them in and two wheels in the back for stability.  These even come in adult sizes so your child will be building a lifelong option for physical activity.

Gotta wear the helmet, even if you hate it.

If none of these will work, but bike riding is something you care deeply about, there are carriers that can be attached to the back of your bike so your child can ride with you. Maybe they will enjoy it as much as you do without needing to push one pedal stroke.

Have fun and stay safe out there!
