Red Sauce

Like lots of kids, Mikey likes predictability in his food. Sometimes this makes him tend towards processed foods that have exactly the same taste and texture each time he eats them. Over the years, we have come up with some recipes that, if made precisely according to the set recipe, Mikey enjoys.
This marinara sauce, which Mikey now calls red sauce, is a Giada DeLaurentis recipe and it uses onion, celery and carrot along with crushed tomatoes. We pureed the sauce with an immersion blender before serving to make the texture uniform.

The chopping tool Mikey is using is a chopping tool that we got on www.forsmallhands.com
They call it the wavy chopper. Kids can hold it with two hands and safely cut veggies and fruit. You can tell from this entry that even a simple recipe like marinara can get kids working on lots of different kitchen skills.
Even now, Mikey requests ‘pasta, red sauce and parmesan cheese” at least once a week.
