Pudding

Ruby, our golden retriever, licking pudding off of Mikey's hands. His face is still covered.
Mikey: "Look, Mom. We're sharing pudding!"

This is just the cutest! It just makes my heart happy to see it. These two were so adorable together. They loved each other like crazy and it was truly a pleasure just to watch them.

Journal entry from Friday, Feb 28, 2014. Photo of Mikey and Ruby. Pudding all over Mikey's hands and face and Ruby licking his hands. "When I eat pudding, my dog Ruby gets some too!"
Ruby: “Don’t worry, Mom. I’ll get his face next.”

When I think about one of the biggest benefits of journaling with Michael, it has to be the journal’s ability to let kids see more of Michael. In other words, at home, Mikey is his most relaxed and open self. At school, he may be a little more nervous, overwhelmed or unsure. The journal allowed him to share his best self with his pals and teachers.

Papa’s Advice

“Be polite so that the rest of the world will love you as much as we do.” My Papa would say this to my mom when she was young and then they both shared the advice with me. Mikey’s journal allowed him to share his sweetness, his sense of humor and his joy with his friends at school. It truly helped him to build a community of people who knew him and cared about him.

Journaling Tip

The journal entries don’t need to be anything special. This one is literally based on a 79¢ pudding cup. Just look for the things that make your child endearing and snap a photo. You’ll be helping them build a positive sense of self and providing a way for them to connect with others.
