Polar Express Tradition

Polar Express Ticket, the conductor's hat and the Christmas bell, the first gift of Christmas.
A movie about the power of belief, tradition and the innocence of childhood. Perfect fit!

Each year, we met up with buddies at the Norwalk Aquarium to see the lighthouses, see the marine life exhibits and watch Polar Express on the IMAX screen.  It was great fun! Although he shared this in school on the 22nd, the actual outing was on Saturday the 20th…hope you’ll forgive me any confusion this causes…I usually try to stay as true as possible to sharing Mikey’s journal entries one decade after he wrote them.

journal entry for December 22, 2014. "Saturday was the best day ever! I went to the aquarium with my friends." photo of the whole group and Mikey posing in front of a recreation of a megalodon's jaw open wide.
Sometimes we used to expose Mikey to phrases commonly used by his friends. Phrases like “best day ever” were ones we taught him specifically so he would understand them and be able to use them.

This year had an exciting addition – Santa was diving with the sharks! We either planned this in advance or we got really lucky. It was very cool!

more of Mikey's journal entry...touching a jellyfish, drying his hands, two of the beautiful handmade lighthouses on display, shark diving Santa and a fancy ticket to Polar Express. "We saw the lighthouses and saw Santa dive with the sharks. We saw Polar Express... (I'm sharing the last page of today's entry tomorrow so this one leaves off there).
Sea life, a scuba diving Santa, and a great movie. What’s mom most happy about? Mikey used an electric hand dryer!!!! What? Little wins everywhere!

We were lucky to have pals to join us on our adventures, but you can make any activity like this a family tradition if it is something that works for your family and makes everyone happy…think outside the box on how your holiday traditions can reflect your unique crew.

This adventure isn’t even over yet, Folks. More on this exciting day tomorrow…
