Panda Puffs

Some days you conquer the lost kingdom of Atlantis and other days you just snack on some cereal.  It’s called balance, people.

journal entry: "This is my favorite cereal. I had some today." photo of a box of panda puffs cereal (a panda sitting with a big bowl of the cereal and strawberries with its arms raised in the air.

A Gentle Reminder

You won’t have something exciting and special to write about every day.  You don’t need to feel pressure to do something over-the-top every day.  The steady consistency of a positive home may be the best thing you give your children.

On those days, let them share something about themselves that would be age-appropriate. If you’re not sure, take a guess. Fourth graders are on the tail end of discussing things like favorite cereal, but I knew Mikey’s class well enough to know that they would get on board and participate.

“Oh, Mikey likes Panda Puffs!”

Mikey’s Preferred Preparation

Parents of kiddos with sensory issues might be thinking, “Is this woman off her rocker? My kid would never eat mushy cereal in milk!” Cereal with milk was a definite pass for Mikey too! He ate his cereal mixed with greek yogurt. The greek yogurt was a compromise since I felt better about him having some protein with each meal. We started with vanilla greek yogurt and then slowly switched over to plain greek yogurt over time to get rid of the added sugar (in the yogurt…the cereal kids will eat almost always has added sugar). He also ate cereal dry as a snack. Whatever floats your boat, kiddo! You do you!

“I like Life cereal.”

“I eat cracklin’ oat bran!”

“What kind of cereal do you like?”

All of this great conversation was brought to you by Mikey’s Journal.
