November

My thoughts this Thursday are on my favorite month of the year. I LOVE NOVEMBER! Okay, not parenting related at all, but Thursday Thoughts are my chance to share whatever is on my mind and remind us all (myself included) that moms are people too, with their own ideas and preferences…even if our little ones won’t realize this until they’re much older.
The crisp, cool days with leaves crunching under my feet make my heart happy. Fall is by far my favorite season. I love to jog and the weather is perfect for outdoor running this time of year! It’s just cold enough that I can run comfortably, but not so cold that my eyelashes freeze together. Lots of running makes me a better person, so this time of year life moves along smoothly. The whole mindset of November is calming to me.
The school year is in full swing and the routine keeps everyone calm and focused. We’ve had the fun and silliness of Halloween and we’re ready to reflect and give thanks for our blessings. The focus on gratitude is something I try to carry through the whole year, but it’s just a little easier in November.
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday: filled with family, friends, football and a massive feast! I love to cook and eat and laugh with my family. For me, there is no better day. A holiday that is focused on togetherness and gratitude with a complete absence of extras seems sent from heaven.
We’ve traded in the dreaded bathing suits of summer and we’re pulling out gems like sweatpants, plaid shirts, slippers and even the occasional winter hat…gotta love that!
November is my birthday month so that has always made it feel extra special. I reflect on the year behind me and set some goals for my next trip around the sun. Plus, my husband proposed in November and so far (over 20 years), that’s going swimmingly. Thanks for asking, my handsome!
Overall, November is a winner in my book. I wish you a very happy ‘best month’ ahead.
