New Year’s Eve

Happy New Year, fireworks and a champagne glass.
Festive fun in our own laid back way.

In our house, New Year’s Eve is a quiet night at home.  Sometimes we invite one family over. Before I type this next sentence, try to brace yourself for the wave of classiness that is about to hit you…

I make appetizers from Trader Joe’s throughout the night. We enjoy our champagne, and we chill out.

That’s it.

I know there are articles online about 1,000 activities you can do with your kids on New Year’s Eve and I’m all for any of it for anyone who wants to do it, but I’m usually exhausted by the time the 31st rolls around and I like to keep it simple. I’d grab some balloons, noisemakers, sparklers and those things you can throw on the driveway and they snap.

That said…

I did like to tire the kids out during the day. My kids weren’t great sleepers, so I liked to have some ACTIVITY to get them some fresh air and help them sleep.  Apparently, this particular year, that involved decorating the driveway with sidewalk chalk. Then, at midnight, we ran out onto the festive driveway and made a racket with noisemakers and lit the sparklers. This might be the first year Mikey stayed up until midnight.  Fun stuff!

Mikey's journal entry from Dec 31 2013. I stayed up until midnight! 3 photos of sidewalk chalk 2014 in bubble letters colored in with chalk.
This looks pretty exciting, actually!

Happy New Year to you and yours! Enjoy whatever you do to celebrate the coming of the new year…tomorrow will be 2024!
