Natural History Museum

Mikey was always interested in the planets and the solar system...aren't we all? It's very cool stuff!

We had family who lived in New York City.  When I was thinking of ideas to do with the kids over break, I reached out to them and asked if they’d like to meet us at the Museum of Natural History.  My thoughts on this were twofold. First, I thought it would be nice to see them and catch up.  Secondly, I wanted extra grown-ups so I could be certain Will wouldn’t need to leave early, even if Mikey had a hard time.

Tuesday page of Mikey's spring break book. 'On Tuesday, we went to the Museum of Natural History. I thought the dinosaurs were really cool. I went to the planetarium for the first time ever. I loved it!
If you don’t try, you’ll never know…Mikey thought this was the greatest!!

We had never been to this amazing and exciting museum. I knew Will would be over-the-moon excited to go. Dave was at a point in his career in which taking lots of time off was tough and he was taking Friday off to be with us for Easter preparations so I knew he couldn’t join us.

I was always perfectly comfortable giving things a try and letting Will know that we would do our best to stay as long as possible and see everything, but I couldn’t guarantee it.  That said, I genuinely tried to avoid setting us up for failure.

How much can you ask of a kid who loved the natural world and is genuinely excited to experience this over-the-top amazing place? For this very exciting trip to the Museum of Natural History, Will needed to be allowed to stay as long as he wanted. Our family provided the insurance I needed to make sure we had enough hands to make it work.

So, we met up with family and it turned out that Mikey LOVED every second!  He was in heaven! We all had a great day experiencing the giant blue whale, the dinosaurs and our first-ever trip to the planetarium! It was a great day!
