National CleanUp Day

September 21st is National CleanUp Day. If you’d like to join a clean-up in your area, volunteer on https://www.nationalcleanupday.org

If you’re looking to do something at home, maybe today is the day you make a chore chart.  Create a list of the things that need to get done and assign them to family members who can complete them (either independently or with help).

Ideas might include:

  • Strip the beds to wash the sheets
  • Put away the clean dishes
  • Wipe down windows
  • Sweep up
  • Vacuum
  • Put away toys (can’t clean if you haven’t cleared the floors)
  • Gather donations (less clutter makes every cleaning day easier)
  • Dust the shelves
  • Wash the dishes
  • Clean the bathrooms
  • Clean the kitchen

You can be as creative as you like!

A Fun Idea

When I was a kid at sleep-away camp, the director made up a fictional character named Clean Jean.  On our clean-up days, Clean Jean would score each cabin (I assume the counselors just submitted the scores).  The winning cabin would get a prize.  If your kids are ultra-competitive, maybe it makes sense to do group chores and then a group reward. Everyone helps and everyone wins.
