Just Show Up

I think this quote from Brené Brown is particularly meaningful for parents who are facing challenges that overwhelm them. There are moments when we don’t have the answers. Our childrens’ doctors don’t have answers, and the school team is out of ideas. Everyone has good intentions, but there are no clear solutions to the problems we face.

Photo of a Connecticut garden in May, greenery just budding, surrounded by mulch and a large rock. Quote: "The willingness to show up changes us; it makes us a little braver each time." Brenee Brown

In those moments, just find the strength to show up.  Try to put down the regret over what has been, release the fear of what will be and plop down on the floor with your little one. Hug them, if that’s their jam. Line up their toy cars.  Pull out their favorite book, the one you can recite by heart.

Just. Show. Up.

At times, it’s the best we can do. But I have to believe that our kids are just like us.  They are comforted by the people who show up for them. We have the power to make them feel supported and loved, just by our presence.

Keep showing up for them and the process will make you a little braver each time because you and your sweet kiddo will keep pulling through challenge after challenge.
