Happy Easter

dyed easter eggs with a sign saying Happy Easter!
Happy Easter to all who celebrate!

One of the crazy things about sharing Mikey’s journal a decade after he wrote it is that sometimes things fall on different days.  In 2014, Easter was in April…I’ll share that entry when we get there, but for 2024, I wish you all a very Happy Easter!

Yes, that is a margarita glass filled with jelly beans. Is that not how you decorate for the holiest of days?

I’ve been doing the Pray 40 on Hallow for Lent. This year, the prayers and meditations are based on a book called “He Leadeth Me” by Father Walter Ciszek.  Father Ciszek was falsely imprisoned in Russia and his ordeal was anything but ordinary.  That said, the lessons he learned apply to all of us who are going through trials.

One quote seemed particularly applicable to our lives as special needs parents.

“No man, no matter what his situation is ever without value, is ever useless in God’s eyes. No situation is ever without its worth and purpose in God’s providence. It is a very human temptation to feel frustrated by circumstances, to feel overwhelmed and helpless in the face of the established order.” page 47

Even if you’re not religious, I think this perspective can help.  Your purpose on this Earth, whether you think that is part of God’s plan or just a matter of circumstance, is to provide the best care possible for your child. In the process, you’ll become an expert on your child and an advocate for people with special needs, just by living the life in front of you with grace and dignity.

As I always say, you are uniquely qualified to parent these little humans just because they are yours.  Whether you have biological kids or adopted children or step children, your daily life gives you the opportunity to be important to them.  You can make their lives better, inspire them and share joyful moments with them.  Above all, you can shower them with love and acceptance.  If that’s not doing God’s work here on Earth, I’m not sure what is.
