Halloween Prep

Taking time to prepare makes the hectic day go more smoothly.

With a few weeks to go until Halloween, this is a great time to practice wearing the costume.  Start off with a timer and ask your child to wear it for a minute.  It may be that this little prompt is all you need.  Your child might decide to leave the costume on after a minute and wear it for the rest of the day…wonderful!

If a minute is distressing for your child, this is probably not the right costume for this year. Maybe rethink it.

This helmet was definitely a risk, but we tried it in the backyard and Mikey loved it!

If it seems fine for your child to tolerate the costume for short periods, build up over the next couple of weeks until the big night. Practice how to get out of it to use the bathroom and make sure it is a good weight for the temperature in your area on Halloween.  Here in CT, Halloween night is often cold and sometimes rainy…we’ve even had snow on Halloween…ugh!

Just keep this one on your radar so when the schedule is different on Halloween, the costume won’t be an added source of stress.  After all, it is supposed to be fun!
