Fishing

a close-up of the journal entry photo of Will fishing and his drawing of a tugboat.
Fishing really turned out to be more Will's thing.

You know how I always say, “If you don’t try, you’ll never know.”? Well, now we know.

journal entry from August 27, 2013 "We went fishing. I saw boats." photo of will on the fishing boat and a drawing Will did of a tugboat.
Will really did all the fishing. He actually did the drawing for the journal too!

I hate ocean fishing! Mikey hates it almost as much as I do.  Will and Dave love it!!  Okay, so this particular day was our first time trying this and it was not the best experience for me. I was massively sea sick and it turns out that Michael only likes speed boats when they are in fact, speeding.  Sitting still and rocking in the waves bored him to tears and he wasn’t interested in fishing at all.

He wasn’t actually upset. We looked at boats that were passing in the distance and named all of them…a favorite pastime for Mikey.  We ate snacks and Mom drank a lot of ginger ale. It was not the best for us, but Will loved it.

I can’t remember if I was ambitious (or stupid) enough to try this again…sometimes I think I can troubleshoot and help Michael to enjoy an experience more the second time. We will find out together as we go through his journal, but I truly hope I let this one go.

I know that Dave and Will have had many father-son outings to go fishing, so eventually, I did get the message and let Mikey stay home with me. We were both much happier that way!
