Fireworks

Mikey smiling with his friend S surrounded by fireworks. Writing saying My first fireworks and Happy 4th of July.

Will really wanted to go to the fireworks.  Our town historical society puts on a Rock N’ Roots Festival with food trucks, a colonial fife and drum performance and tons of local bands. The town gathers and brings their chairs to sit out in the field near the school, and the fireworks start at sunset.

I was nervous about how Mikey might react to the loud noise of the fireworks, but I thought he would love the bright colors and lights. We used our usual approach. We had two adults, plus many friends from town who could have stayed with Will and brought him home if Mikey needed to make an early exit. We had a plan, so we gave it a try!

journal entry: Happy 4th of July! MY FIRST FIREWORKS! I absolutely loved the fireworks. Awesome! One photo of firewords surrounded by 5 photos of Will and Mikey with their friends at the town festival. Everyone’s faces obscured with bomb pop stickers.

It turned out, no planning was needed. The boys saw a zillion friends they adored, and they both had a blast! Mikey LOVED the fireworks!! I’m so glad we let him try it and decide for himself.
