Finding Dory
Back in 2016, the summer was off to a great start! We’d had a trip to Petco and to the Lego Store. We had attended a baseball party to celebrate the end of the season and we’d had a BBQ. Mikey had done some puzzles with Mimi and some swimming. Wow! I’m tired just thinking about it all. Let’s go to the movies!
Will was a good sport and came with us to most of the animated movies Mikey liked. Sometimes, if there was a show in another theater at the same time, I would take Mikey to one movie and Will would see another one that was too complex or scary for Michael.
That summer, we’d been so busy, I think we were all just happy to sit in the air conditioning and relax! Good thing Mikey saved enough energy to make his Dory face. LOL

Erica Mauro is a mom to two teenage boys, Will who is neurotypical and Michael with Autism and cognitive delays. She holds a BA in Psychology from Colgate University and a Masters of Psychology in Education from Columbia Teacher’s College. Before staying home with her children, she worked as an elementary school teacher. For five years, she served on the Board of Directors of the Molly Ann Tango Memorial Foundation, a charity dedicated to enriching the lives of children with special needs. In partnership with her husband Dave, she aspires to parent by using daily life as an opportunity for therapeutic intervention, seizing on real experiences as opportunities to build skills and strategies for Michael in a joyful, loving home environment. On the tougher early days, she just tried to get everyone safely to bedtime and start fresh in the morning. *wink*
