Field Trip Ideas

Field trips can be tricky for our kids who thrive on routine.  Everything is different on field trip days, and our kids need help making the day successful.

When Mikey was little, I often volunteered to be one of the chaperones for the field trips, especially if I was concerned about his safety on the trip. I always previewed the trip with Mikey and spoke to the teacher ahead of time about any concerns I had.

One decade ago, Mikey was getting ready for his first middle school field trip to the Connecticut Science Center.  I spoke with the teacher and trusted the team. I made sure his one-on-one would be with him throughout the trip and I felt that he would enjoy the day. Still, I wanted to help the day go smoothly.

Cue the Comfort Food

During Will’s swim practice, Mikey and I went to the grocery store and picked out a few of his favorite foods. That way, I knew that at least his lunch would be familiar and comforting.

Doing our part as parents behind the scenes can help our kids be successful…even if we’re just making sure they have their favorite yogurt in their lunchbox.
