Fidget Toys

Snowman drum with fidget toys title in bubble letters and two cutout snowflakes.
Every one of our visitors: Will's friends, cousins, etc...play with Mikey's fidget toys. They are just plain FUN!

A fidget toy is anything your child can play with to occupy their hands.  It can have another purpose or it can just be for fun.  This little drum can be rolled between thumb and forefinger to make the little beads whip back and forth and bang the drum.

Mikey wrote, "I play little drum." photo of mikey playing with the drum and then the snowman drum itself (a handle with the snowman drum pad and two little strings with a bead on each side
Back and forth…just so satisfying!

Recently, I wrote about Mikey’s command center.  Each month (or so…I don’t get too anal about it) I swap out Mikey’s fidget toys both to keep him flexible and to keep him interested.  I only put out a few at a time, although he has access to all of them. We keep them in bins on shelves in our basement playroom.

The only purpose of these is to allow Mikey to stim, to focus his energies and to keep him calm.  There is no need for the fidget toys to progress or grow more complex…they’re just for fun.  Mikey has been using this little snowman drum every January for years and I expect he will keep using it until it breaks. I certainly won’t be taking it away or telling him he needs a more grown-up way to calm himself.

This fits in the category of the Baby Einstein videos…if he likes it and it’s not hurting anyone else, I’m letting him have it. Happy snowman drumming, Mikey!
