Family Teamwork

There is a lot of work that goes into making a household run smoothly. Clothes and linens need to be washed. Dishes seem to multiply if they’re left to sit in the sink. The trash needs to be taken out. The lawn needs to be mowed. The floors need to be vacuumed and mopped. The counters need to be wiped down. The dog needs to be walked. And the dust? Why is there always so much dust.

My husband and I take care of most of the housework, but we do ask both of our boys to pitch in because we need the help and because I think it is good for them to contribute.

For my philosophy on chores, click the link below.

Since my boys are full grown men now, I often ask them to help with carrying things: groceries, baskets of laundry, packages in from the porch and…plants.

Don’t get me wrong, they’re not always the happiest helpers.  And, trust me when I say, I know adulting is pretty sucky sometimes. But, I hope they understand that I am trying to raise them to help the people around them and handle their own responsibilities.

Afterall, Dave and I are not asking them to do anything we’re not doing ourselves.
