Family Day
One of my mom’s dear friends was in town visiting so we brought the boys over to see her and spend some quality time with her, my mom and my step-Dad. The boys called them Mimi and Pop.
As with every family gathering, we tried to make sure there was something for everyone. We had a relaxing meal together, giving the adults time to chat. We also took a leisurely walk down to the beach and let the boys spend some time playing outside.
As always, I brought something for Mikey to do while we sat at lunch. He did some coloring. Even though my mom planned around Mikey, it was never predictable what he would eat so I always brought some of his ‘safe foods’ (foods I knew he would eat and enjoy). He also had the option to go out on the porch and get some fresh air in a safe space where we could keep an eye on him.
A successful day, spent with people we love…that’s a win!

She holds a BA in Psychology from Colgate University and a Masters of Psychology in Education from Columbia Teacher’s College. Before staying home with her children, she worked as an elementary school teacher. For five years, she served on the Board of Directors of the Molly Ann Tango Memorial Foundation, a charity dedicated to enriching the lives of children with special needs. In partnership with her husband Dave, she aspires to parent by using daily life as an opportunity for therapeutic intervention, seizing on real experiences as opportunities to build skills and strategies for Michael in a joyful, loving home environment. On the tougher early days, she just tried to get everyone safely to bedtime and start fresh in the morning. *wink*
