Emergency Kit

Every good scout knows that it pays to be prepared.  Officials recommend having food, water and emergency supplies on hand to keep your family safe for at least a week. Go online and check out what is recommended. Then add one or two of those things to your grocery list each week…that’s a budget-friendly way to make sure you’re stocked up.

Special Needs Families need to go beyond the basics. Our kids may need medical supplies, diapers or medications that are above and beyond they typical emergency kit. I encourage you to stay on top of this because in an actual emergency, first responders will be busy with other things – you want to know your family is taken care of.

Go Further

My strongest recommendation is to go beyond survival. If your child eats a pudding cup every day, keep the shelf-stable kind in your emergency kit. What does your kiddo need to be safe, healthy and happy for a week if you can’t go out.

What’s the unique thing in my emergency kit? Candy, of course! I wouldn’t want to be stuck in the house with Mikey while he is in sugar withdrawl…that would be awful!
