Elementary School Graduation

stylized class photo with the title Graduation on top, kids faces obscured with graduation cap stickers, except for Mikey's smiling calmly in the middle.

In our town, we call this a ‘stepping up’ ceremony. Kids are acknowledged for their hard work in elementary school, and they get excited for the start of their middle school experience.

Since Michael usually used his journal to share home events with the kids at school, he didn’t have a journal entry for this special day.  Here is the Facebook post I shared at the time.

my Facebook post about graduation. Photo of Mikey receiving his diploma and photo of Mikey's teacher giving him a hug and a note. "So proud of Michael today (and every day). His stepping-up ceremony was a perfect end to the year -- helped by his loving friends as he has been all along. I'm filled with gratitude for all of the fourth graders, parents, teachers, therapists and administrators who have opened their hearts to him. We are truly blessed!

The ceremony was followed by a classroom party.  Here is a photo from the day of Mikey posing with some of his friends.

It was a truly special day for our family!
