Driveway Hoops

This time of year, our family loves the lengthening days and the warm evenings that signal the start of summer here in New England.

We try to head outside after dinner each night for a little while. When the kids were younger, we’d head in with enough time to get showers and bedtime routines done, but now, we sometimes light a fire in our outdoor fireplace and stay outside long into the night. I am usually the one who gets tired out first at this stage of the game.
My Kid Can’t Play
If you’re thinking that your child can’t play basketball, I want to be fully honest. Michael doesn’t truly play basketball either. He learned how to shoot on a lowered basket and he runs around with the ball. He can throw it and catch it. I wouldn’t worry too much about the finesse with which your child plays. Participation is the key here.
If your child has physical challenges, watch some YouTube videos of wheelchair basketball. These athletes are impressive and may make you rethink the idea that your child cannot play.
Mikey’s Message
Just get out there and play, even if you have to wear your Snoopy Christmas tee-shirt in June to get it done. Wink.
