Dreams

I share Mikey’s Journal from one decade ago because I think it gives me some perspective on my parenting choices. It allows me to share my decisions within the broader arc of Mikey’s development and to reflect on what was a good choice and what might have been a misstep.
So, as I write this, I am the mom of Will (a typical 22-year-old) and Michael (a 21-year-old with autism and developmental disabilities). I can honestly say that it feels like we are on the verge of some long-time dreams becoming reality.

I’m proud of our sweat, determination and hard work…mine, Dave’s, Will’s and Mikey’s. Even our dogs were there for emotional support and love. We are doing it!
With a grateful heart, I share our happiness with you, so you know that if you are struggling, you should keep at it! Your hard work and determination will pay off. I will hold you in my heart and keep you in my prayers, because I know you and your child have it in you to make your dreams come true.

She holds a BA in Psychology from Colgate University and a Masters of Psychology in Education from Columbia Teacher’s College. Before staying home with her children, she worked as an elementary school teacher.
