Do What You Love

Noah's ark puzzle, rainbow completed, ark in progress, puzzle pieces everywhere.
Happiness is doing what you love.

If you’ve been following Mikey’s Journal, you know that Mikey loves a good puzzle.  Since he was a toddler, putting the square piece into the square space, puzzles have been a favorite activity. This makes sense to me because they require no language, something which is tricky for Mikey.

journal entry from April 10, 2014. "I love to do puzzles!" photos of the puzzle, mikey sitting on the floor with puzzle piece in hand, working on putting it together.
Puzzles are really a lifelong hobby. They may not be your cup of tea, but lots of adults still do puzzles. If your child likes doing puzzles, I’d encourage it.

This puzzle was of Noah’s Ark, and it reminded me that the story of Noah and the animals was always appealing to Mikey.  He had a book which told the story. He had a toy ark and he liked pairing up the animals. I’m sure it doesn’t hurt that the ark is a huge boat…Mikey loves boats!

The Parenting Angle

The idea of Noah’s Ark made me think that sometimes, when the rains just keep falling and things are looking bleak, we need to build ourselves an emotional ark.  We keep ourselves and our loved ones safe and we wait it out.  Just hang in there and keep an eye out for the dove with the olive leaf. You won’t be at sea forever.
