Community Supported Agriculture was explained in the journal entry so Mikey’s friends could understand why we went to the farm every week.  

There were several reasons why this was a perfect fit for our family at the time. First, the pick-up was weekly on Wednesday.  I knew we could fit that into our schedule easily. When we arrived, there was a short list of items, and each family gathered their own share for the week. A written list was (and is) right up Mikey’s alley, so he could take our tote bag and gather up our share almost independently.

In addition, the share often included a pick-your-own item and we could head out into the fields and pick the blueberries or strawberries or fresh flowers for ourselves. This fits perfectly with my ideal of what raising children should be, without me having to tend a farm myself. Let’s be honest, I can barely keep up with the laundry.

Finally, the farm had animals! When the babies are born, members of the CSA could go see the babies.  That alone was worth the cost of the membership.
