Crickets

oil painting effect on a photo of a summer wooded backyard with a giant cricket

I love this quote from Charlotte’s Web. As fun as summer can be, there is a comfort in the return to routine the end of the season brings. Although back-to-school doesn’t feel like a sad time to me, it definitely signifies a profound change from the freedom of Summer.

photo of a beautiful sunny backyard surrounded by woods with the printed quote superimposed. "The crickets felt it was their duty to warn everybody that summertime cannot last forever. Even on the most beautiful days in the whole year - the days when summer is changing to autumn - the crickets spread the rumor of sadness and change." - EB White Charlotte's Web

My thanks to the crickets for letting us know that we’re headed into the steady drumbeat of Fall, even as we enjoy the dying embers of Summer.
