Check-Out

Mikey’s smiling face as he checks out at Trader Joe’s, holiday greenery added for effect

Grocery shopping is an activity that includes many smaller skills. On this particular night, Will was at swim practice. Mikey and I went to Trader Joe’s to pick up a few things…AND work on teaching Mikey how to check out using a credit card.

journal entry on lined paper: “i love using the credit card to check out at the grocery store!"

Working on checking out was a joy for Mikey! He loved doing it and it was building skills for a lifetime. This goal was also in his IEP so he could practice checking out at home and at school. Since the checkout process is slightly different at every store, it made sense to build flexibility into the skill development.

CHECK OUT that happy face at the checkout line!! See what I did there?
