Buddha’s Wisdom

sketched image of a small statue of the Buddha sitting cross-legged with his hands on his knees.

If a friend or loved one came to you and shared a problem, how would you react? If they told you they were worn out and felt like they were running on empty, what would you say? If they were struggling with a parenting problem, would you berate them and discourage them?

Without thinking, we support others.  We encourage them to take a break, get some rest and we offer our own help.  But, when we are struggling with something ourselves, we can quickly move to criticism, discouragement and loss of hope.

This sentiment is vital for us as parents to high-need kids.  Our lives revolve around caring for others, but if we don’t maintain our own health and peace, we’ll wear ourselves out. We won’t be helpful to anyone if we run ourselves ragged.

I know that when push comes to shove, you will always put your family first, and I admire that! I’m right there with you, but don’t let too much time pass before you find ways to refill your own tank.  You deserve your own love and attention.
