Berry Picking

blueberries and raspberries, a farm sign and two stylized photos of mikey: one walking through the farm and one picking the raspberries

First, would you please check out the determination on the face of this sweet berry picker?!? Adorable.

journal entry: Yesterday, I picked berries at the farm. Focused face as he picks the blueberries, a photo of him walking through the farm and a photo of him from behind as he picks the raspberries.

Now, check out the photos again.  Can you see the netting over the blueberries? The farmers at our local farm wisely use this to keep the birds from stealing all their blueberries.  Good call, Farmers.

Before we arrived, a bird had become caught in the netting and died. It was stuck there! I am terrified of birds to begin with, and a dead bird hanging above my head was sending me into a serious spiral.

Mikey, totally oblivious to the aforementioned dead bird, charged right ahead, focused on picking his blueberries.  I couldn’t let him go on his own out of a fear that he would notice the bird eventually and God forbid, touch it!  Yuck!

So, I followed along, staying as far away from the bird as possible, but I could barely take my eyes off of it…this day was so traumatic for me, but Mikey was just focused on the task at hand. Thankfully, he was a very good berry picker at this point – he didn’t need my help picking at all – and we went home with our full pints!
