Backyard Campout

This may be one of my favorite memories with my boys, so I am especially excited to share our backyard campout adventure with you.
But First
I should let you know that at this stage of our lives, camping out away from home seemed tricky. I was looking for a way to give the boys the experience without stressing myself out. So, this is what we did.

The Adventure
We started in the late afternoon. We pitched the tent, filled it with our sleeping bags and water bottles and a lantern for the night. Then, Dave made us some hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill for dinner. After dinner, we had a night swim and made a campfire. We roasted marshmallows and made s’mores for dessert. We stayed up extra late in the hopes that once we hunkered down in the tent, everyone would sleep through until dawn.
I used a simple padlock on the inside zipper of the tent. That way I knew Mikey wouldn’t end up in the pool unsupervised while I was asleep. I like to wake up with the same number of kids I put to bed.
We had a blast! For such a small amount of effort, it paid big dividends in the memory making department.
