Aquarium Tradition

Group of friends, outside the aquarium posing for a photo, faces of everyone except Will and Mikey covered with neon Christmas shapes (Santa, a tree, presents, etc..)
A holiday tradition built just for us.

Every year, our local aquarium held a lighthouse contest. People from the surrounding areas could use any crafting materials they chose to create a lighthouse.  The lighthouses were truly amazing, showcasing creativity and craftsmanship.  Each December, they would display the lighthouses and allow all the visitors to vote on their favorite one!

Mikey's journal entry from December 5, 2013. We went to the aquarium yesterday. Mikey and Will with pals outside the aquarium and at a diner.
Aquarium fun and then dinner at a local diner.

We must have had a day off for teacher conferences or else it was a snow day in which the snow never appeared, but we took the opportunity to head to the aquarium for some fun! We voted on the lighthouses and then went to the IMAX theater to see the Polar Express.  Then sometimes we’d go get dinner or go check out some local Christmas light display. This became a holiday tradition for several years with our good pals.

In fact, I just saw an ad for the Polar Express and asked Mikey if he wanted to go see it.  The other kids have certainly outgrown the tradition, but if he still wants to go, I’ll be his friend of last resort. I love that movie!
