Aging Pets

2 stylized photos of Mikey running in the backyard

Our dog Max was born in January of 2004.  That’s right, smack in the middle of Will and Mikey.  If you’re doing the math…

I was happily loving up my little toddler Will, pregnant with Mikey and I thought it would be the best idea ever to get a Golden Retriever puppy.  Follow me for more great advice. Ugh.

So, at this stage of our story, Will and Max were eleven and Mikey was ten.

journal entry for April 28: "I ran around like a nut! So did Will! Max did not. smiley face Five photos of the boys running, one of Max laying in the grass.

Aging pets give us the opportunity to allow our kids to step up as caregivers. They can learn to be more gentle. They can bring their aging dog treats and go to him to pet him when he used to run over to them.

Plus, older dogs are great for giving sweet, calm cuddles…

Or laying in the grass while the kids run themselves ragged.
