Advent Calendar

photo of Mikey's advent calendar with a winter scene with numbered flaps
A photo under each flap...a trainer advent calendar, if you will.

At this stage of Mikey’s life, a chocolate advent calendar would have been gone in one day.  To top that, his brother’s would have been gone as well and Mikey would have had a major tummy ache.  We needed another plan.

journal entry from December 3, 2014. My advent calendar is a picture with a flap for each day. Today the picture was a snowman.
I wrote one explanatory sentence to help Mikey’s classmates understand the photos.

We used this ‘lower incentive’ advent calendar to teach the concept of how those calendars are supposed to work.  In other words, “One per day, for the love of Moses!” A picture of a snowman is fun, but it is easier to wait a day for the next picture than the next piece of chocolate.

Now we tend towards activity-based advent calendars like Lego or puzzles. Those are working out well for Mikey.
