A Letter to You

When I look at these photos, I can hear the laughter. They were cracking up!
Dearest Parents,
Okay, by now you know all my big messages: outside time is really important, time to play is vital to development, respecting your kids is the key to everything and laughter is the best medicine, even when you’re not sick.

But, as I look back on this journal entry ten years later, I have a bigger message. Now, with one young man in college (boy, do I miss that kid) and one young man who is transitioning to adulthood before my eyes, this message seems much more important.
Lean in, my Friends…
Be Present!
Be there in person with them (whenever you can), be present mentally and soak it in emotionally because the days will be excrutiatingly long but the years will fly by.
When I look at these photos, I feel comforted by the fact that although these days are gone, I treasured them at the time. It makes it easier to let them go now because I held them so tight then.
Hold ‘em tight, parents! And when the time comes, let them fly!
Xo,
Erica
